I'm new to this world of PD, as of June officially, but it's something I have thought about a lot as well. Why is there a worldwide increase in cases?

I kind of buy into the fact that people are being diagnosed earlier than ever before, which inflates the statistics, but also can't shake the feeling that something environmental - or some things environmental - is having a disproportionately big impact. The western lifestyle cocktail of inadequate nutrition and high stress does seem like a truly debilitating combination.

I totally agree. I think many of us also were aware of symptoms long before diagnosis. I certainly look back at a series of unexplained things and pin them as PD now.

Same. When it was first mentioned to me that should have a DAT scan, I looked at the list of symptoms and thought “ yep yep yep”.

https://parkyconversations.buzzsprout.com/. You’ve nailed it, Emma stress is a huge symptom creator. I’ve recently spent time on friends lakefront properties. Yes, I’m lucky to have them, and I was symptom-free during my entire visits; then I got home and the symptoms returned. the only way I can think to replicate those experiences is to buy a house on a lake, that is not happening so I’m trying to meditate more. Meanwhile, I hope you don’t mind my shameless promotion of my new podcast, Parky Conversations in which you will star in a future episode. I’ll keep you posted about the air date of your brilliant interview!

Oh, the words disappearing... It drives me crazy! I couldn't remember the word "bend" the other day, and ended up telling Richard to "fold his leg"!! Stress worsens my M.E. too, but irritatingly, 'good' stress does it as much as 'bad' stress. It always seems that I can't enjoy *anything* without payback 🤬🤬🤬🤬

haha! It’s so frustrating and bizarre especially if you have always been a wordsy person. Yep the good stress…like watching an action film or something sends me over the edge as well…/littlecry

I’ve recently decided that my PD is environmentally caused. I grew up near a large steel mill and an iron processing plant. Also, when I was young, most homes were heated with coal. Winter time in our valley meant a layer of brown air every day. The incidence of PD is high in my area and especially in my age group. I am now 80 but have had PD symptoms for 30 years.

That’s really interesting, were you diagnosed recently?

I know that some veterans are convinced that the cocktail of drugs they were given resulted in PD aswell.
