Hope you're well (as can be). My tip is: listen to Eckhart Tolle. I discovered him a while ago and he's helped me. One of his quotes is something like: you can't deal with the future because it isn't here. When it arrives, the ways and means to solve the problem will be revealed (or not). Restful, right? He is perfect for soothing the nerves and his voice is soporific and will help you sleep.
Love to you in icy, but bonny Scotland from dark, cold, flat Netherlands 💗
Great blog Emma! I has similar concerns of being shut out of travel after a disastrous Murphy's Law "adventure" in Mexico. But I learned from my mistakes. First, no early flights; getting up at 3 in the morning to make the TSA happy does not go over well with Mr. Parky. So book your flights so that they respect your rhythms, not the other way around. Second, use the services that airlines provide for people with mobility issues. Yeah you might be able to make it without help, but why gamble? I proudly display my handicapped parking placard now because I figure if I have to deal with this shit every day, the least I can expect is good parking. This past summer I travelled for a month in Europe using my proprietary classification "AmicaTourism" or "travel with friends." My partner and I have have cultivated some friendships with international amigos whom we visited across Europe, saving a ton of money and a crap ton of misery. Friends can plan around you and your needs, unlike your garden variety tours that keep everyone strictly on the same schedule. Parky bodies don't adjust well to variations--and certainly not many all at the same time. So don't ask it to.
Oh Emma - you really got me this time…6.33 am I’m standing (back too painful to sit or lie) all bleary and teary…and now, having clocked the comment above slightly cross at these people who keep sending you ADVICE…FFS!!…
Anyway back to you…“walking aimlessly.. filled with a kind of joy that was pure and uncomplicated” … yes yes yes!
Travel now “for the fit/ rich..” yes yes [the lonely planet pre-packed out of existence ]
Enough ness…the wonder of small things nearer home…yes yes [Proust nailed it].
Drained by the strain of “trying to appear “fine” for others” yes yes YES.
But it was “you are enough” that broke the dam.
Now 07.22 [I text so slow] it seems mad that I should have had such a powerful reaction to that simple phrase..
And TBVH I’ve lost the purity of emotions in trying to write something sharp and smart here…but thanks anyway Ems…
I miss so much of my old life xxx
I know, at least I still have mobility and some vague sense of my previous self. Love you xx

Ah, yes I read him years ago, must revisit, thank you xxx
My grandpa used to get away in the bus when Nanee wasn’t looking. How it amused his grandchildren!
In a teeeeny way, I know how this feels - to be at home all the time (as caregiver).
There are so many things that we do...willingly, but that can make us feel al little trapped xxxx

Travel is by nature, Unpredictable. Hard pass. Unless it’s to a medical specialist 🤔
Ha! Yeah that's the harsh reality x
