I love your words so much! "That grown men could sound like dreams." ❤️🙌❤️
I only knew their song Take On Me from MTV but loved it, and the video, with his sweet and kind voice, and gentle smile. Swoon! Sad to hear the news about anyone, always, but announcements like these are relentless reminders that this disease is relentless and indiscriminate.
I’m so sorry to hear about Morten Harket (and his extraordinary voice). You’re so right about creativity, although mine is not Parkinson’s. We’re still us xx
Great reflection, Emma! Like you, when I saw the news, I was like "A-huh?" Although I haven’t listened to their music since those first few hits here in the US, I was taken aback by yet another well-known person facing this disease. And I am glad that, despite his usual privacy, he decided to go public. This foul disease is no respecter of persons, and so my heart is always struck when I hear about someone else getting the "blessing" of this despised palsy.
As one of the "old men shuffling about," I want to thank you for not making light of us baby boomer Parkies. Too often, we are the face of Parkinson's, and I am honestly surprised at how few people know about YOPD. I cannot imagine what my life would be like had this hit me in my 40s. It's hard enough now.
Anyway, thank you for putting our struggle into insightful and often funny words. I am still chuckling at "There are days when my hands feel like they’ve been outsourced to a toddler with an espresso addiction." 😄 Every day, sister, every day.
“Whose body fizzes with rebellion but whose brain is still throwing creative parties most days of the week.”
Brilliant. An excellent read. Love your take on things.
PS (I crushed too)
XO
Thank you!
